3 - as long as they kept the "skill updates" confined to each area.

Probably 3 or 4, maybe even 6 depending on how Anet handles guildwars until gw2 is released.

You have to realize that it is all proportional. I doubt that more than 15% of Anet staff is working on PvP, and the game was very poorly marketed from a PvP perspective. Read the prophecies box, it basically says "buy this cheaper version of WoW!" with "might have some PvP" in 0.8 font in the bottom left corner.
The majority of people that play this game are PvEers because this game was marketed as a PvE game with great value for money. However, this game is not just a PvE game, but a game with awesome PvP, much more unique and revolutionary than it's PvE counterpart.
It's funny because the majority of people that got into PvP bought guildwars and played it for the PvE. You could almost say that guildwars PvP was discovered by accident.
To sum it up, Guildwars PvP was different, Guildwars PvE was just good value for money. Had Anet marketed the PvP part of the game as opposed to the PvE one, and catered to the first wave of hardcore PvPers (who all left because they didn't want to grind PvE to play PvP before faction was implemented), then PvPers would have represented much more than 15% of players.
Hopefully Fury will prove that a PvP only gw-type game can work.

I started in PVE and moved more to PVP over time.
GW2
I’m going to start with PVP this time. I’ll swallow my pride and play all the ‘flavour of the month’ builds to gain what ever is going as fast as possible.
Every time I loose I’m coming on these forums demanding that all the skills that killed me be nurfed immediately.
When I achieve sufficient Rank I will just refuse to talk to anyone in game without insulting them.
Forgot - Options: good mixture of 2 & 3 please

2-I love GW PVP, but i dislike the fact that most PVP's judge you by how much fame etc you have.
2 Would be perfect for me, however i could live with 1 or 3.

2) PvE + casual/unranked PvP
You need to test your skills against real oponent once in a while.
But I'll choose a PvE mecanic any day.
EDIT: I once saw someone saying that most good players were leaving GW for more "profitable" game (mainly on the PvP side). I think this thread is a proof of this and GW2 will be see a huge drop in the player base.
**(changed the word balance fro mecanic)**
I'm eager to see how will ANet use this tread for their game.

Definately PVE for me.
The 'immortalized' character idea is too good for me to pass up.
